- Mrs. Aubrie Holman
Mrs. Aubrie Holman has been coaching TJSO for 12 years. Her favorite events are Cell Biology and Designer Genes, but most of all she loves working with the leadership team to help them build the capacity to run the team with efficiency and integrity. More than anything, Mrs. Holman wants TJSO to be a place where students work hard, explore new interests, and feel a deep sense of community. Outside of TJSO, Mrs. Holman is mom to one 5-year old budding scientist, wife to a Cooper MS teacher, and is likely to be found sewing, knitting, or teaching Jazzercise.
- Mrs. Samantha Hale
Mrs. Samantha Hale has been coaching Science Olympiad since 2013. She started with Division B at Cooper Middle School, building a legacy of champions. In 2023, Mrs. Hale started teaching biology and coaching Division C at TJHSST and was immediately impressed by the team’s community and dedication to excellence. Outside of school, Mrs. Hale is a parent of a middle schooler, a high schooler, two cats and an African Grey Parrot. She is an avid fan of the Capitols hockey and the Nationals baseball teams.
Officers
- Alex Do, Captain
Alex has been competing in Science Olympiad for 9 years. Prior to being captain, he was the team’s Event Director for the last two years. His favorite events include Disease Detectives, Detector Building, and Cell Biology. He’s also involved in TJ Wrestling and Public Forum debate. Outside of school, he enjoys reading sci-fi/fantasy and spending time with his sheltie named Soybean.
- Kavya Kuttuva, Co-Captain
Kavya has been competing in Science Olympiad for 6 years. Prior to being Co-Captain, she was TJSO’s publicist. Her favorite events include Disease Detectives and Experimental Design, and she harbors a deep fear of the event Write It Do It. She is also the Editor-in-chief for TJ’s Science Journal Club (Teknos), and a policy specialist for TJ’s SGA. Aside from school, she enjoys photography, table-tennis, sporadically binging k-dramas, and reading.
- Phoebe Pan, Co-Captain
This is Phoebe’s 5th year competing in Science Olympiad, and prior to being Co-Captain, she served as the team’s Communications Secretary. Phoebe is a bio nerd, and you can always find her reading Campbell or Vanders. Some of her favorite events include Anatomy and Physiology, Experimental Design, and Microbe Mission. Outside of TJSO, she enjoys learning about machine learning, conducting research, and playing volleyball. In her free time, you can find her painting, watching k-dramas, crocheting, or doing anything crafty.
- Jennifer Zhang, Communications Secretary
Jennifer has been competing in Science Olympiad for 6 years. Some of her favorite events are Anatomy and Physiology, Detector Building, and Robot Tour. She’s also involved in TJ Volleyball and Biology Olympiad. Outside of school, she spends time playing piano, baking, tutoring, and training her younger brother to become a D1 soccer player.
- Fletcher Lee, Publicist
Fletcher has been competing in Science Olympiad for 2 years! Some of his favorite events include Forensics and Air Trajectory. Outside of TJSO he enjoys learning about bioinformatics, and conducting research. Outside of School, you can find him reading interviews, listening to jazz, rowing, coxing, and sitting on his comfy sofa and doing absolutely nothing there!
- Angelee Kang, Event Director
Angelee has been competing in Science Olympiad for 2 years. Some of her favorite events include Scrambler and Experimental Design. She loves engineering, chemistry, art, and music, as well as most dogs, penguins, and the color light pink. Outside of school, she enjoys playing the violin, romanticizing homework, swimming, and napping on her living room couch on weekdays at 6:30 PM.
- Nathan Liu, Event Director
Nathan Liu has been Sciencing the Olympiad for 6 years. He loves all the bio and engineering events and is willing to take on the horror of Write It Do It. Outside of Science Olympiad, he loves to hike and enjoy nature and hopes to one day go backpacking across Europe with his sister. He also likes to run, cook, edit videos, and build random stuff in his free time.
- Tayne Han, Head of IT
Tayne is a rising junior that has participated in Science Olympiad since 8th grade, with some of his favorite events being Astronomy, It’s About Time, and Dynamic Planet. He also loves physics, math, and pretty much anything STEM-related, as well as geography, and is a part of the TJ Math and Astronomy Competition Teams. In free time, he likes to draw maps, learn languages via Duolingo, and read nonfiction books.
Officers’ Mission Statement
The officers’ mission statement is a set of principles that guide operations within the corps as well as how officers interact with each other and the community at large.
- Our ultimate mission is to serve the TJSO team. This goes far beyond individual prestige, and is our way to give back to the team that we love and that trusts us.
- TJSO represents TJHSST as a whole – as the team’s leaders, we display our best selves and inspire our teammates to do the same.
- We respect that our sponsors have the final say in our decisions.
- We are not afraid to ask questions.
- We are all in the process of learning, and questions can only help, not hurt.
- We are not afraid to reflect on our past mistakes and correct them.
- It is natural and okay to make mistakes. What is important is that we are mindful of our fallibility and do our best to right what has been wronged.
- We speak out when something feels wrong.
- When receiving a suggestion, we do not take it personally. Again, everyone makes mistakes – as teammates, we rely on each other to catch oversights.
- Transparency, integrity, and clear communication (both internally, to our team, and to the wider community) is key to all we do.
- We take care of our health (physical, mental, and spiritual) to sustainably serve our team, and support each other in doing so.
- Finally, we always respect each other – as teammates, co-officers, and wonderful fellow human beings.
